Bones Staab SPF 58mm Review

Thu, 11/11/2010 - 16:52 — Goodtime

Product: Bones SPF (skate park formula) Staab Pirate Wheels 58mm

Conditions: Been using for about a week now, mostly park and bowl skating, occasional street and commute.

Other equipment/setup: 8inch goodtime deck, ruckus trucks, modus 5 bearings.

Comments: Ridiculously fast around the bowl. This is due to large diameter and smooth wheel surface. I was comparing the staabs’ to my old generic wheels with the same modus 5 bearings in them and the difference was huge. Staabs’ were tons faster, grippier and smoother. The release is predictable and controlled. At one stage I tried to change direction on the flat of the bowl, turned too hard and started to slide, instead of losing it the slide was controlled. The 58mms were big enough to be fast but not so big that you will suffer wheel bite. Another good thing about using a bigger wheel is that you’re less likely to fall as a result of riding over cracks, bumps, sticks ect.

Negatives: Slightly heavier than a smaller wheel.

Summary: If you like to go fast in bowls or need a wheel that can handle a bit of uneven terrain than staab is perfect.
